Maggie & Lance
September 1, 2019 - I decided it was time to try something different for traveling on the road. The Toad Ranger was sold and I upgraded to Maggie & Lance.
I was extremely sad to see the old Ranger pull away after selling it because that truck was phenomenal and it's so hard to find manual transmissions now.
A couple reason for changing:
The Ranger was over 150k miles and only RWD so I was concerned about having to drive through the mountains frequently during the winter.
The Motorhome home was over 90k miles and I didn't want to have to deal with two aging vehicles.
The Motorhome did not seal well for winter living and had some recurring leaks I had to keep dealing with.
What is it?
Maggie is a Magnetic Gray 2019 Ford Ranger SuperCab STX 4WD
Lance is a 2018 Lance 2285 Travel Trailer w/ 4 Seasons All Weather Package
Maggie's the workhorse
Lance is the lazy one
Maggie literally has to drag Lance around if she wants to go somewhere with him
Where has it been?
Maggie's traveled around the western US, including a snowboarding trip to Colorado, New Mexico, Montana & Idaho. Lance has only traveled around the Seattle/Wenatchee area in Washington
Observations:
Maggie is powered by a 2.3l, 4-Cyl Ecoboost engine which seems awfully small so I was concerned with Maggie struggling to tow Lance. Maggie is rated for 7500# towing capacity, Lance is rated to max out at just under 7000# fully loaded. After two round-trips over mountains near Seattle I don't have any major concerns related to power; Maggie seems comfortable and stable. The only major concern is range; gas mileage for Maggie towing Lance through mountains so far is 10-12mpg, which means I can only get about 200 miles per tank which is not good.
Issues/Concerns:
Maggie didn't feel like having functioning rear blinkers and brake lights directly out of the dealership (fixed under warranty after a couple tries).
Maggie has some pretty impressive (and annoying) buzzing from the engine; apparently this is normal with the Ecoboost.
Maggie has some weird shifts at times
